My Favorite Homemade Recipe For Bronchitis
I don’t know about you, but as I grew older, my preference for hot drinks shifted from coffee to tea. There’s something about the scent of freshly ground herbs and that warm feeling of “healthiness” after each cup that gets to me.
Now, I’ve tried dozens of herbal teas over the past 12 years to help soothe my lungs. Some of my personal favorites include the Mullein Tea, and the classic ginger-honey-lemon mix. But for today, I would like to share with you an all natural remedy for asthma, bronchitis, cough, and other lung diseases that uses… wait for it… onions as a base!
Red onions. Interesting ingredient, huh? In many cultures around the world, red onions are considered as an all natural remedy for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. And as we know, people with lung problems are familiar with inflammation and bacteria accumulation in the form of phlegm. Which is why the combination of red onions and honey in this recipe is the perfect blend of natural ingredients for people with respiratory problems.
To prepare this herbal remedy, you will need:
1 lb. (½ kg) red organic onions (chopped thinly)
1 lb. (½ kg) brown dark sugar.
6 cups (1,5 l) water.
2 lemons.
7 tbsp. of raw organic honey (molasses for vegans).
And here are the steps to prepare:
Place the sugar in the pot on medium heat and continuously stir. Once you see the sugar start dissolving and for a reddish color, start adding the onions. Cook it for 10-15 seconds or until the onions and sugar have mixed well, then add your 6 cups of water.
Wait for the mixture to boil and let the liquid evaporate until only 1/3 of the liquid mixture is left. Once done, leave it too cool and add 2 freshly squeezed lemons and 7tbsps of honey. Transfer to a glass jar and let it steep for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator
How to consume:
Take 1 tablespoon before each meal daily until you finish the entire mixture. For children, it is recommended to take one teaspoon of this remedy, also before each meal.
